Golden bosses — how much better is the loot, and how do you survive one?

Numbers, since people keep asking: a golden boss has 3x the HP of the normal variant, double the damage, is about 30% faster — and pays out 5x the XP plus 3x the loot. It is absolutely worth taking, and absolutely capable of deleting you if you fight it like a regular boss. Golden spawns are rare enough that when one shows up, the real question is whether your build can survive the attempt or whether you're about to donate your mass to it. How are people handling them? Kiting with slows (Frost Shot, Frozen Circle), walling it off, or bringing the whole party?
